Lockport School students have an opportunity to take Human Ecology in Grades 7, 8, and 9.
Grade 7 students study Food and Nutrition and rotate between theory and cooking classes 2 periods a cycle for half of the school year.
Grade 8 students study Clothing and Textiles for 2 periods a cycle for half of the school year. Grade 9 students can select the Human Ecology Elective, which focusses on Family Studies, Food and Nutrition, and Design. Students will have 4 periods of Human Ecology a cycle. Major projects in the
Grade 9 Course vary each year but may include taking home an Infant Simulator Baby, Iron Chef Cooking Competition, creating their dream home, and fashion design.
The Human Ecology room at Lockport School has five kitchens, a sewing area, and a classroom area. Students learn skills that will help them become happy and healthy adults.
